breed description - 01 to 05

The objective of a breed standard, to describe the physical and characteristics of a particular race and also it's character. An standard give's an ideal image of the race,  and is been used by judges, breeders and exhibitors at dog shows.
Judges criticize the dogs on basis of the breed qualities of the breed standard.            A good breeder  knows the breed standard through and through and try to breed dogs as close as possible to the breed standard.

The first breed standard of the ENGLISH BULLDOG was written in 1875. Since then the standard several times adapted. and the most recent version of the country of origin, England, dates from 1986.

This breed standard in the country's which are members of FCI (F
édération Cynologique Internationale), including the Netherlands, apply this breed standard. The bulldog club of America accepted the British breed standard since it's founding in 1890

The Head.

Only fig. 03 shows correct proportion between skull and foreface.

The Underjaw.

Fig. 04 shows a good lower jaw, this should protrodes slightly  above the upperjaw  (undershot ) and is curved upwords. The jaw should be broad, massive and square.

Fig 03 is acceptabele, but fig 04 shows the correct type.

The Ears.

Fig. 04 shows the correct type of ear, called ‘Rose’ Ear

The ears should be placed wide apart on the head, the size of the ears should be qoite small and fine.
